Pot created by

Founded by Lt Col Mark Bowra MBE in 2019 during his own rehabilitation from stroke, Bowra Foundation supports brain injury survivors through practical help and physical challenges alongside members of the Armed Forces community.

The foundation achieves Mark’s aim through two main activities:

Building on his own experiences, Mark devised the Bowra Bag: a small backpack of aids to rehabilitation including physiotherapy equipment, drawing and writing kits as well as small, practical tools such as easy-tie shoe laces and a Knork – a combined knife and fork that enables you to eat using one hand.

Although everyone’s recovery journey is different, Mark has worked with practitioners and included items that helped him improve his movement, dexterity, communication and independence. Bowra Foundation raises funds to provide Bowra Bags to people living with a range of neurological disorders at the earliest opportunity.

Secondly, Bowra Foundation provides a unique opportunity for people living with brain injury to change their perceptions of their own ability through participating in activities such as hillwalking, adaptive cycling and surfing in a safe environment, supported by some of the UK’s most inspiring veterans, many of whom have sustained life-changing injuries themselves.

Mark got back into training and exercise as soon as he possibly could and has proved that engaging in challenging physical activity assists recovery. It is now his mission to inspire and encourage others to do likewise, whatever their level of fitness. Individuals are invited to participate in activities and challenges alongside Mark and other military veterans.
